There is a distinction between intention and resolution.
Resolution is the resolve to change something that is not optimal. When you change something that is not optimal, it can mean that you are dissatisfied with that something.
And that something is often ourselves.
Not an external circumstance.
Often a resolution is our attempt to make ourselves better from what we consider a sub-optimal space. And that can be a bit tricky because sometimes that means we are putting down ourselves.
We feel deficient, we don’t feel good about who we are unless X happens. And so often with that kind of resolution, it points towards a set up towards failure because you are coming from a place of poverty, of deficiency, of lack. In relationships, having too much weight, not enough fitness and so on.
There is a certain way that people fall into the trap of the resolution which is the same kind of trap people fall in with self-help or self-development. It is as if there is a voice that keeps saying: “There is something wrong with me, let me now make a push to fix it.” And that of course in itself is not a very good way to start any shift or any growth or development.
In contrast when we look at intentions, it is a way to look at an optimal situation and point yourself towards that optimal state.
That is not to say that you are not getting away from the negative aspect but rather you are not looking at the negative aspect. Instead you are looking at the positive aspect to work towards to.
So when we look at embodied intention setting, what we looking at is essentially an intention that allows us to point ourselves towards something that feels positive and something that feels doable by means of optimization, by means of desire, by means of what your heart yearns for, by means of what is good for not only you, but your partner, your children, your friends and the world at large.
So in intention setting we are always turning towards that which is beneficial and by default turning away from that which is suboptimal.
As mentioned in my previous newsletter, the actual new year starts on 22 Jan 2023 by the cycle of the moon and 4 Feb 2023 by the cycle of the Sun.
The New Year is an arbitrary date on which beginnings happen as a new cycle comes into rhythm. The rhythm in the context of what of what we are working with which is of any good practice, any good changing habits, any intention has to have a beginning and an end.
From now till 4 February 2023, I am actively offering a modified advanced version of my Tension Release Practice called the Calling In Practice to you which is a simplified embodied intention setting session on private session basis by appointment.
Book a slot here for this unique but powerful practice as we welcome the actual New Year 2023.
