Inner Practice Series: Power of Single Tasking
It is common for people to multitask most of the time. We can eat and talk and text and walk at the same time. That is usually the bare minimum that a human being in the modern society today can accomplish.
Why do we feel compelled to multitask, to not waste time by just doing ONE thing?
It seems that our self-worth is based on how much we can produce in a day, or how many items we can cross off our long to-do list. Activities such as eating, drinking are some examples of activities that don’t earn us money, or a spouse, or a Nobel Prize. Therefore we begin to think that they hold no value.
But what if I tell you, the most important work we do each day is to be truly present, even for one minute? What if the most important gift we give to the world is not any kind of product or item but is just OUR PRESENCE.
Practice: Do one thing at a time for one segment of the day (morning, afternoon or night). Observe and how you feel and then compare with when you multitask in another segment of the day.
