Inner Practice Series: Seeing Beyond

What you see is not what it is

When I first started my practice, I got to see many patients from all walks of life. And sometimes I do envy how people can have such a wonderful, ‘better’ life. You know, as the saying goes, the grass is always greener on the other side.

But as my practice grew over the years, I got to share and have the honor of being on the healing journeys of many. That was when the reality unfolded, and I started to realize that things were not simply the way it appeared to be.

The glamorous may have deep scars and wounds that are still rotting behind the beautiful façade. The have-it-all-togethers may have imbalances beyond repair underneath.

The thing is we never know what people are going through to behave in the way they behave on the outside. We also never know how much help some people are screaming for from the inside when they may be always appearing to be well, composed and happy on the outside. We just never know.

So never believe what you see.

But hold a little more compassion for whoever you meet.

Because for those who are mean, they may have been through hell to make them who they are today. And for those who are seemingly ok, they may be still in a hell that they can never reveal to anyone.
