My Journey of becoming a TCM Physician Chap 14: Spirituality is your Best Friend in times of Hardship

Life is not easy in China, more so if you are a poor student surviving in that harsh environment for years. We all experienced how living as a ‘commoner’ is like in the big city. I promise you, after the living experience in China, you will realise how spoilt and dependent some Singaporeans can be.

As we can see from the global spread of the virus, freedom of speech is not a thing for the waking Dragon continent. Hence religion is definitely another hush hush thing in the country.

So during the stay in China, we would realise after a while that churches, temples etc were all not easy to locate. They were either situated mostly in outskirts or they were mainly tourist attraction sites, meant for tourists visits rather than oasis for contemplation and spiritual practices.

Hence, somehow in a very silent and subtle manner, the group of us studying in China started to form our small individual spiritual sharing groups. No one realised the importance of this part until whatever we had been through could be emotionally and mentally draining. And we could only turn to God, Buddha, any other higher power, or maybe just inner self for strength.

It may sound unscientific again if you are the kind who is anal about how things should all be seen and touched with the physical form and evidence to substantiate it as science and how things SHOULD work.

Go through a period of hardship and you will be grateful that luckily there are areas in life that goes beyond physical which ironically is the one that pulls you through shit in the end.

So wherever you are, whatever you are undergoing and if you manage to read this, remember:

Search and embrace within yourself for that part, that voice in you that is backed by no logic, but pure belief. It is not disgraceful, it is not stupid, it is not lame. It is your POWERHOUSE.
