Interesting TCM Facts 101: Ancient TCM Doctors Get Paid Regularly when Patients Stay Healthy
Traditional Chinese Medicine is a preventive medicine. Which means the medicine advocates regular sessions with the doctors to maintain your health, not seek treatments only when you are sick or injured. It is exactly when you are healthy that the health can be kept at a tip top shape easily. If treatments were done only when conditions or issues arise, it will take longer time and more efforts from both the doctors and the patients to rectify.
Therefore historically Traditional Chinese Medicine doctors were paid to keep people healthy. In ancient days, people paid their doctors a regular fee to upkeep their health. If they fell sick, the doctors would not be paid until they got better.
This also shows the close relationship patients had with their doctors in health and wellness maintenance over a long period of time in their course of life.
