Interesting TCM Facts 101: Does TCM acknowledge Soul?

Soul in this case refer to Spirit and there is absolutely nothing woo woo about this. In fact Soul or Spirit refers to the energy that embodies your capacity to show up in the world as the best version of yourself.

The answer to whether TCM acknowledge the presence of Soul is a resounding Yes. And in TCM, as usual we like to analyse things to the level of utmost intricacy, we even divide Soul into two kinds: Etheral and Corporeal.

Big terms again. But if you are one of those who loves watching Chinese martial arts, you would have heard the term “三魂七魄”. Hun (魂) refers to Etheral Soul and Po (魄) refers to Corporeal Soul.

Soul in this case simply refer to consciousness and Etheral and Corporeal Soul are just two different kinds of consciousness that exist in a person. Simply put, Etheral Soul is the energy that is connected to the Higher Consciousness or Higher Self within a person, while Corporeal Soul is the energy that is connected to our primal instincts to survive in this physical 3D world.

And the reason for TCM to acknowledge the existence of Soul is because we have our own set of Psychology that links health from all aspects together, including physical, emotional and spiritual. This is so that when we assess and treat one part of the equation of being human, we keep in view and improve the entire human being on all levels. We like things holistic and not segregated and compartmentalised, don’t we?
