Inner Practice Series: It Is Just Like That

I was talking to an associate and telling him the issues of the space that I was having my practice at. And he actually gave me a sentence of wisdom, which till today ease my mind whenever I felt frustrated and downward spiraling into my exasperation.

He said,

“It is just like that.”

On the first thought you may find that what he said was disempowering and even weak to a certain extent. But that sentence took away my obsession of control over the situation which most of the time the thought of in control is an illusion and put my monkey mind at ease. Instead it became empowering for me to change my perspective and took on the role of making the best of what I have got.

In other words,

Acceptance is the Medicine here.

Practice: The next time you find yourself beating yourself up in whatever situation that you are frustrated in, tell yourself first “It is just like that.” And see how you feel from there.
