Ask Dr Xiang Jun: Can I Exercise After Acupuncture?
After acupuncture, it will be advisable to rest for the rest of the day. This is because a session of acupuncture is like an internal exercise work out for the entire body system and energy has been expended during the session. Further exercises, especially the strenuous ones, after the acupuncture session may tire the body out more and weaken the Qi or energy of the body.
In addition, after the needles are taken out, the effects of the acupuncture are still running for at least the next 24 hours. Any kind of rebalancing and readjusting are still happening after the session. Therefore, it will be good to rest to allow the session’s effect to do its job in healing, treating and rebalancing. Exercising may disrupt the Qi flow and circulation which the acupuncture is trying to achieve.
