Interesting TCM Facts 101: Less is More
A lot of patients will ask me what should be consumed more to tonify and further strengthen the body up.
But my answer to most of them is that
It is more about abstinence rather than addition.
Why?
Because in our modern society, we are over nourished rather than malnourished. A lot of illnesses nowadays come from overeating and overnutrition. Examples are diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and the list goes on.
So it is more about cutting away rather than keep adding more and more tonifying foods to your already overburdened body.
The King of Chinese Medicine in the Tang Dynasty in China, Sun Simiao advocates The Four Less way of living. One of them is to eat less. Because eating less will reduce the chances of illness occurrence.
腹中食少,自然病少。
To keep things simple, at least for this part of the world that we are living in, less is more.
