Scientific Proof to How your Body react to Acupuncture - Plantar Fasciitis
Frequent and regular sessions of Acupuncture will treat Plantar Fasciitis.
Heel pain affects a substantial portion of the general population and it is commonly caused by plantar fasciitis.
Plantar fasciitis is characterized by pain and tenderness centered on the heel area on weight bearing, especially immediately after rest such as getting out of bed in the morning. It is usually resulted from inflammation of the thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of each foot with connection to the toes, which is otherwise known as plantar fascia in medical scientific terms.
The cause for plantar fasciitis is unclear but it is more common in runners and people who are obese.
Current conventional treatments include the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and steroid injections. However such chemical drug treatments are associated with serious side-effects.
Acupuncture has been used for many musculoskeletal pain conditions, including heel pain. In recent years, more and more studies have been conducted on the use of acupuncture to treat patients with plantar fasciitis.
There are some studies that have found that for patients with plantar fasciitis, acupuncture may be more advantageous and safer than Western medicine.
And here are some of the scientific papers that support that:
Conclusion: Acupuncture can provide pain relief to patient with plantar fasciitis and PC7 is a relatively specific acupoint for treating heel pain. The pain-relieving effect of acupuncture, including central opioid pain inhibition, diffuse noxious inhibitory control (DNIC) system and anti inflammation mechanisms may attribute to the treatment of plantar fasciitis.
Conclusion: There is evidence supporting the effectiveness of acupuncture for Plantar Heel Pain. This is comparable to the evidence available for conventionally used interventions, such as stretching, night splints or dexamethasone. Therefore acupuncture should be considered in recommendations for the management of patients with Plantar Heel Pain.
