Scientific Proof to How your Body react to Acupuncture - Snoring

Regular sessions of Acupuncture will reduce the occurrence of snoring during sleep, hence allowing a better quality rest.

Although it may sound absurd to comedic, snoring can actually cause real problems in a person’s sleep pattern and is indicative of potential underlying health issues. Snoring can be part of a disorder call sleep apnea, where breathing repeatedly stop and start in a period of sleep. With such disruptive sleep pattern, it can affect the oxygen intake, REM sleep and cause one to feel tired even after a full night’s sleep.

In sleep apnea, there are basically two forms: obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea.

Obstructive sleep apnea is the more common forms when throat muscles over relaxed and obstruct the airway during sleep. Central sleep apnea is when the brain does not send proper signals to the muscles that control breathing.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, snoring indicates that the person is weak in Lung Qi, thus the throat muscles lose its tone to keep the airway open. Another reason can be the person is sluggish with dampness in the body, hence obstructing the meridians of the Lung, Large Intestine, Stomach, Spleen which runs through the throat.

Acupuncture will help to resolve snoring through addressing the root issues of the body, be it weak Qi or high dampness in the constitution. In scientific terms, acupuncture recovers and resets the muscular or nervous system that are involved in either the obstructive or central sleep apnea that presents in the form of heavy snoring.

Here are the scientific evidence that support this:

Conclusion: Manual Acupuncture and electroacupuncture were more effective in improving AHI and mean SA O2. In addition, manual acupuncture could further improve apnea index and hypopnea index compared to control.
