Bazi Fengshui Series: Who is Tai Sui?
When talking about Tai Sui or Grand Duke, people will often identify this as a Taoist deity or god prayed to for the year to be smooth and safe. Especially some people who are born in certain years will face a situation of Fan Tai Sui when the new year is said to clash with them.
But who is really Tai Sui? In fact is it really some god or character out there that we have to be fearful of every now and then?
Tai Sui is actually not a mysterious god or deity that you offend. It actually represents the planet Jupiter. Ancient Chinese astronomers noticed very early on that the cyclic movement of Jupiter brings it to the same spot in the sky approximately every 12 years. So they plotted 12 zones from west to east along the equator to mark the big planet’s position each year.
As there are 12 zodiac star signs that represent the 12 animals in Chinese astrology, the planet Jupiter which has an orbit around the sun of approximately 12 years will be directly facing one of the 12 zodiac stars every year. To be directly facing a planet is also known as confrontation or in direct conflict. Hence Fan Tai Sui or “offend the Grand duke”. In direct conflict or clash just means changes. And not all changes are negative as some changes are necessary to remove negative situations. Example one patient of mine had a Fan Tai Sui year which led her to change jobs twice but her health improved thereafter as the final new job environment was giving her more work-life balance.
But will you really face bad luck one whole year if you never pray to the Tai Sui God for that year that you so-called offend?
Well all I can say is do not expect to have good luck just because you offered a few bananas or apples to the gods on the altar. Metaphysics tools are scientific astronomic calculations that can preempt you some potential situations that have the possibility of materializing in reality. But the final call of whether good luck or bad luck ensues will still be you as a person taking the right actions and attitudes towards what is to come.
