Bazi Fengshui Series: Impatience is a Form of Greed
It is said that impatient people rarely have good fortune. This is because being impatient is actually going against the order of nature.
Being impatient is not a personality trait, but rather a display of lack of inner peace. Correcting the defilement of impatience is essentially changing your destiny, for fate is not predetermined but rather resides in your very thoughts and breath. If you are constantly driven by haste, every step you take will be filled with anxiety and deviation. If you can progress with patience and a calm mind, destiny will naturally align and fall into place by itself.
Impatience Brings Delays
Impatience is a form of greed; it is the desire to get results quickly and the hope that everything will go as one wishes.
Impatient people may seem decisive, but they are actually bound by greed and fear. Greed stems from the desire to possess immediately, while fear arises from the dread of loss.
This impatient mindset goes against the natural order of things. Because the universe operates with its own rhythm; the seasons change, day and night cycle in routine, all without the slightest deviation. Therefore in this world, everything can only be accomplished through patience and calmness.

Being impatient is like going against the current; not only will you not achieve the desired goals and dreams, but you will also exhaust yourself. Impatience often accompanies unhealthy longing and anxiety. These negative emotions, like fog, obscure the clear wisdom. If you think too quickly and act too hastily, you easily wander lost in the fog, misjudge your direction, and make wrong decisions.
Instead of getting the results you want fast, impatience delays you further.
Everything Takes Time
There's a profound analogy.
An impatient farmer keeps pulling up the seedlings as soon as they sprout, thinking it will make them grow faster, but the result is always ending up withering the crop.
Everything in the world needs time to grow. Love needs time to develop, a career needs time to build, and even brewing a pot of tea requires waiting for the water to reach the perfect temperature.
Impatient people, however, always want to skip these necessary processes and rush to get the end result, like expecting to reap a harvest without sowing.
A rich life is not achieved overnight, but through gradual cultivation. Those who are too eager to get rich often fall into traps that make them lose more than they make. Those who are too eager for fame often lose their way. Those who are too eager for success are prone to making numerous mistakes.
There is a Zen teaching, "Walking slowly allows you to go further." This is not about teaching laziness, but about understanding that true progress comes from following the natural rhythm.
Careful observation of nature reveals that flowing water never rushes, yet it flows endlessly. A great tree does not rush to grow tall, yet its roots are deep and its leaves are lush. Truly blessed people understand the principle that slow and steady wins the race. Speaking slowly reduces conflict. Taking a step back in action avoids mistakes. Remaining calm in the face of adversity often brings a turning point.
Impatience is a Lack of Trust
People are impatient because they lack trust—trust in time, trust in the law of cause and effect, trust in themselves. There is always a voice urging them to be faster, better, and to see immediate results. But if the conditions are not right, impatience is useless; if the conditions are right, things will come even without rushing.
Impatience stems from an unease about impermanence and a lack of understanding of the laws of nature and cultivation.
Impatience begins with this restless mind.
How to Overcome Impatience
To overcome impatience, do not suppress it deliberately, but learn to be mindful. Be aware of the moment your heart stirs, the instant your breathing becomes disorderly, and the thought that you want to act immediately. When awareness arises, deluded thoughts cease. The Surangama Sutra says: "When the restless mind ceases, cessation is enlightenment." What is the restless mind? It's that mind that runs everywhere, eager for quick results. When you can stop it, wisdom naturally manifests. True cultivation is not about pursuing external perfection, but about having your heart no longer restless or swayed by external things in every moment.
To cultivate a calm and unhurried mind, there are two key points: first, be at peace in the present moment; second, let go of expectations.
Being at peace in the present moment means bringing yourself back to what is in front of you and not letting your mind wander to the future. The more urgent the matter, the more you should do it slowly. When you first calm yourself down and do not rush for results, you will see things more clearly and progress more steadily. Peace is a form of strength. It keeps your heart calm amidst chaos and steadfast amidst storms.
Letting go of expectations is letting go of greed. Contentment is the source of wealth, happiness, and peace. Many anxieties stem from overthinking, demanding too much, and having unrealistically high expectations. You want to change your destiny immediately, stand out from the crowd, and have everything go your way. But fate operates at its own rhythm; a moment too early or too late will not work. The more fixated on the outcome, the less likely you are to achieve it. The more you try to grasp something, the easier it is to lose it.
To change an impatient nature, one must begin with daily self-cultivation. Eat slowly and chew thoroughly, savoring the flavor of each bite. Think before you speak, allowing your words to be filtered through wisdom. Proceed gradually in all endeavors, respecting the natural progression of things.
Patience and Calmness Change Destiny
Good destiny is not something to be rushed upon to attain, but something to be earned.
When you can calm your mind and go with the flow, good fortune will come unbidden.
When you stop being impatient for success and stop being driven by your emotions, your destiny begins to change.
The turning point in your fate does not lie in the external world, but in whether you can be at peace in the present moment. A calm mind brings peace, clarity and understanding, and an understanding mind brings fulfillment.
May you cultivate a serene and unwavering heart amidst the hustle and bustle of this world.
May you let go of your impatient thoughts, align yourself with the rhythm of nature, and allow everything to blossom and bear fruit naturally.
When your heart is calm, time is no longer an enemy, but a wise and supportive friend that shapes you beautifully.
