Inner Practice: Fire Yourself for One Day

We play multiple roles in our lives everyday.

A daughter. A son. A boss. A doctor. A lawyer. A businessman. A father. A mother. A grandparent. A subordinate. A patient. A caregiver. A senior. A junior. A friend. A foe. A mentor. A student.

Sometimes we can get so involved and way too deep in certain particular roles that we totally associate our very own identity with them. Some even achieve complete emotional identification with the part, often staying in character even when the cameras stop rolling. The fact is that most people are not even aware that they are already doing so and eventually find themselves suffering from the attachment and addiction to the roles themselves, no matter how pathetic and horrible the experiences that the characters are going through. The scariest delusion is when a person gladly declares:

“This is me, there is nothing I can do about it.”

Well.

Of course there is something you can do about it.

Fire yourself. At least for one day.

 Call out the cut.

Step down from the role.

Get reborn.

Even for just one day.

Because life INDEED does not end at the Oscar award winning character that you are playing all these while - be it at your work, in your illnesses, in your relationships.

Go on.

Do it for yourself.

Fire yourself for 1 day.

For whatever role that you have been playing way too long

And way too deep.
