Inner Practice: What is Time?

What is Time?

We cannot see it, we cannot feel it, we cannot grasp it.

But we all know it is there.

It slips through our fingers, just like fine sand.

It moves right in front of our very eyes, moment by moment. Stealthily. Silently.

We use numerical, clocks, quartz, Sun to monitor Time, to control Time, to keep Time.

But what are we actually keeping? What are we actually controlling? What are we monitoring?

What is Time?

Time is a concept.

Make Time, keep Time, kill Time, watch Time.

Time is so real

And so unreal.

What is Time?

Time is the soul.

All that has happened, all that is happening, all that will happen is the body.

Events, moments give sense to Time.

Past, present, future is Time.

What is Time?

Time is endless.

There is no start. Nor there is end.

Going round and round.

Cycle after cycle.

In small rhythms, we may notice.

In big patterns, we may be ignorant of.

Rhythm, pattern is Time.

The rhythm of breath, the beat of the heart,

Up and down, front and back.

Life and death.

Not looking back.

Round and round.

That is Time.

The linearity of Time.

Heals all wounds.

A great healer.

That is time.

The cycle of Time.

Preserves thoughts, actions, behaviors.

Traditions heritage protector.

That is Time.

Time is Everywhere.

Time is Life.

This poem is dedicated to a patient of mine who has travelled across the world for our paths to cross in Singapore and has inspired me immensely with his work and dedication to education, teaching and knowledge.

Time will let us meet again.

Till next time.
