Figs are often mentioned in the Bible. Some believe that it was a fig and not an apple that was the Forbidden Fruit that Eve ate in the Garden of Eden.
Ancient King Mithrydates proclaimed figs to be a health tonic in 1551 BCE.
In Greek mythology it is believed that Demeter gave a Fig to Dionysus as a gift, hence the link to love and fertility.
Figs are linked to male potency. Women have carried Fig carved into phallic images to raise their chances of conceiving.
