Attitude to Adopt in this Pandemic
It has come to a point that we are in a state of pandemic and literally the whole world is affected. We have in history the Yellow Fever, the Flu Pandemic, the Polio epidemic, the Spanish Flu, the Ebola but the one that has affected every continent every country is what we are going through now – the CoVid-19, Coronavirus.
We cannot deny now that it is a world-scale outbreak and we as the modernized humanity has experienced it so close to us, affecting our lives to the very core. It has reached a state when everyone is being forced to stay at home. Entertainment, sports facilities and any kind of social gatherings are discouraged. Social distancing is the in-thing now.
In this state, I find it interesting that somehow the situation is putting everyone into a state of retreat. I have been a retreat leader and am a firm believer in retreats. The situation now is literally putting everyone into that condition.
There are many kinds of retreats – detox, yoga, heart healing, fasting, meditation, silent observation and many more that I may or may not know of. But the main theme of retreats is always to let one turn inwards towards oneself. The things that are done in retreats are just ways and journeys to reach your inner self.
We have to stay home, face our partners and family members that we usually have no time for or deliberately escape from. We are not allowed to have big gatherings, social entertainment and non essential matters are to be avoided, we have uncertainty about resources like food, we have to go into nature and outdoors to exercise because studios and gyms are restricted in their operations. In retreats, usually that’s what you have to face and what we do. We connect with nature more, we disconnect from unnecessary talking and socializing and we connect with ourselves more.
I always believe things happen for a reason and pandemic at such a scale, the message may also be at a world level and to all mankind.
A patient of mine told me his mum said that this may be Earth cleansing and detoxing itself from the humans who are overriding and taking from Nature for too long, too much. I cannot agree more.
During this time of self quarantine and reduction in socialization and engagements in the neon lit world of vices of all sorts, maybe silence will teach us something.
