Spirituality:
Amaranth has been used by the Aztecs as a food and as part of their religious ceremonies for over 8,000 years. The Aztecs believed that it gave them supernatural powers and used it in ceremonies involving human sacrifice.
Zuni legends suggest that this plant was brought over from the otherworld. Wreaths made of Amaranth flowers are said to have healing properties. The plant is also said to aid in spirits the crossing to the otherworld.
